I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life and the missing crew members from the commercial fishing vessel Lily Jean. My heart is with the families, loved ones, and the entire Gloucester community during this devastating time.

Communities like Gloucester—and those I represent—understand that fishing is more than a livelihood. It is a way of life passed down through generations, built on courage, skill, and an unwavering respect for the sea. When a tragedy like this occurs, it is felt far beyond one port or one town—it ripples through every coastal community that depends on the water.

I am grateful to the men and women of the U.S. Coast Guard and all first responders who carried out an exhaustive and difficult search under incredibly harsh conditions. Their commitment and professionalism reflect the very best of public service.

As we mourn the life lost and hold onto hope and prayers for those still missing, we must also recommit ourselves to supporting fishing families and ensuring the safety of those who risk so much to provide for their communities. Today, we stand together in grief, solidarity, and respect for the fishermen and families affected by this terrible loss.
