Three months after Town Meeting approved to expand the Mattapoisett Select Board from three to five members, Gov. Maura Healey signed the bill into law on Friday, Aug. 22.

Over the Fourth of July weekend, there were three back-to-back accidents on Route 6 in the area.

The Massachusetts Legislature has Democratic supermajorities in both the House and the Senate, but that doesn’t mean its chambers are likely to agree on issues. 

The bill would extend protections against sexual misconduct and abuse by school staff to students who are 16 and 17.

In a flurry of activity on July 31, the eve of the Legislature’s summer recess, the Massachusetts Legislature passed funding for local road repairs, a raise for attorneys who represent indigent defendants, and a legal shield for providers of reproductive and gender-identity care. 

The Mattapoisett Town Band gathered at Shipyard Park to celebrate their 125th anniversary with a pitch-perfect performance, a formal recognition from Gov. Maura Healey and State Rep. Mark Sylvia and 125 cupcakes.

Senate bills would legalize happy hour and let cities and towns — not the state — decide how many liquor licenses they’ll issue.
